The need for clear and comprehensive end user
documentation is greater than ever as building operators struggle
to get the best out of their increasingly complex buildings.
Commissioning and maintenance specialist Commtech
Group is one of the few industry organisations with a dedicated
Documentation Unit and has further enhanced this service by
applying web-based techniques.
As part of the company’s Engineering Support
Services, the Documentation Unit is a vital element in the
after sales care leading to high levels of repeat business
at Commtech.
The unit, which is based at the company’s
Manchester office, was established in 2000 to provide a specialist
source of publications for clients and end users. These include
Operating and Maintenance Manuals, Operators Guides, Part
L Log Books, Technical Leaflets, Training Manuals, Commissioning
Manuals, Installation Manuals, Technical Bulletins and Handbooks
– all of which are produced according to BSRIA standards
or client specifications.
The availability of Operating and Maintenance
(O&M) Manuals is of particular importance to the building
services sector in order to establish high levels of customer
service for their end users. Commtech’s Operation and
Maintenance Manual service has been developed as a complete
solution that covers all aspects, from planning and design
through to production.
The service covers Project Manual Management,
Project Manual Production, Plant Manual Production and O&M
Manual Consultation, provided through a specialist team of
technical authors and support staff.
In addition the Documentation Unit are capable
of producing As Fitted Drawings, for the building services
sector, thus being able to provide the complete handover package
for the client.
The company is currently working on further
enhancing this service by investing in new online communications
media. All manuals are already available in electronic format
as PDFs, either interactive and dynamic or read only format,
for easy and cost effective distribution and in the second
half of this year the company will be launching a new web-based
Extranet to give instant access to the most up-to-date operating
and maintenance information.
Nigel Hersee, regional director at Commtech,
says this will mean added benefits for clients. He comments:
“The new electronic format will result in significant
time and space savings. It is more environmentally friendly,
it means reduced storage for clients and it provides quicker
access to information.”
